Elizabeth Gray, Dandy Lion, August 2018, Jas Eccles.jpg

Elizabeth Gray invites us into a world of imagination where reality and video are entwined. Becoming various absurd characters that exist to entertain and bewilder; their work consists of a hallucinogenic amalgamation of pop culture, cabaret and the absurd. Mrs Art's practice deters from traditional fine art and focuses on themes of escapism and reaction.

Primarily using video, the artist creates scenes inspired by a multitude of popular references from YouTube beauty gurus to 1970s children’s television where characters perform and speak for the camera. Elizabeth’s amateur  approach is reminiscent of a modern John Waters, similarly conveying as much comedy as discomfort or disgust.

Recently, they have begun performing, taking their characters to various drag events across the country. During the course of the Covid 19 Pandemic Elizabeth has developed their practice for digital live events, including Marisa Carnesky's Cabaret School.

Currently, they are now working with textiles and spend many nights crocheting weird stuff in a cave.
